Jacques Guerlain was one of the most influential perfumers of the twentieth century and the driving force behind the family house of Guerlain. Born in France in 1874, he was trained by his uncle Aimé Guerlain at a young age, which allowed him to develop his own signature early on. With an impressive oeuvre of dozens of perfumes, he uniquely translated emotions, culture, and history into scent.
His creations are characterized by refinement, innovation, and a strong imagination, often inspired by distant travels and exotic influences. Iconic fragrances such as Après l’Ondée, Mitsouko, and Shalimar are among his most beloved works and have permanently shaped perfumery. His fascination with oriental compositions, in particular, gave his perfumes a recognizable depth.
