Jean-Christophe Hérault is a French senior perfumer at IFF in Paris and is considered one of the most influential perfumers of his generation. Although he grew up in close proximity to the world of perfumery, his true fascination for scent only emerged during his teenage years, after discovering Joop! Homme. During his chemistry studies, he interned in Grasse, where he met the legendary perfumer Pierre Bourdon, who became his mentor and taught him to approach perfume from both a technical and a cultural, artistic, and emotional perspective.
His style is characterized by powerful contrasts, sensuality, and a strong emotional charge, often built around smoky, leathery, and intensely modern accords. Jean-Christophe Hérault created fragrances for houses such as Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Viktor & Rolf, and Paco Rabanne, but gained global recognition as co-creator of Creed Aventus, one of the most influential perfumes in modern niche perfumery.
